Silence.
My appreciation for it has been tested as a lack of it has serendipitously cropped up in what I am living & experiencing recently.
Talking about the joy of silence with a very good friend who understands what I mean about the actual need for this time alone was my muse for this piece.
It was born in my mind as we talked.
Silence came up in a recent blog post that I read also. The blogger was questioned about what made him feel secure. I read this young man’s blog because he is an old soul and has so much wisdom for his young age – he stuns me.
Wise beyond his years; one of his sage wisdoms is: he knows already the value of being alone and being silent with just his own thoughts. A quiet mind allows the ability to enjoy his own company.
I have been reading some literature of late regarding studies on how silence is a healing energy. Just as laughing out loud creates healing for your central nervous system and brain, so does silence.
Taking time to spend in silence - I realize is something we can and should be doing. We need it, especially in this world where we have so much noise pollution.
I need this time so that I may quiet my mind and spirit down to process my emotions; the events of the day. Some days more than others – and to take a daily inventory.
I cannot do any those things when there is constant chatter going on in my mind.
Have you ever tried to quiet yours? Go ahead. Make your space around you quiet and hear nothing.
Not even music. Now empty your mind of all thoughts & just let your mind go blank.
…..not so easy is it?
With a chatted up, busy, and distracted mind I have a difficult time even purposely praying not to mention take a self inventory.
I want to find how to make my peace with silence.
I have been a prayerful woman all my life, but mediating for mediation purposes was something I tinkered with in the 70′s and although I did find it a powerful belief, I was not committed.
I was too busy. Could I change my mind?
I see now through meditation that the benefit of silence has helped me with my physical illness as well. Silent time heals me emotionally, spiritually and even heals me physically. That is a blessing! Even in my yoga practice, I can stretch muscles and have that benefit alone, OR I can also add the silent time, and really allow healing of my mind to take place too.
Because the custom or ritual of taking time to be alone is NOT something my society (USA) favors, making that time to be alone can dredge up feelings for other people in your life.
I can also cast judgment on my silent time. I went through a short period where I “argued” with (my) Self “that I was being selfish.”
I wondered.
Silence – bits at a time. Each and every day – these silent moments will be Powerful.
They will allow me the time and space to believe that healing will come – and I will rest.
Go ahead.
SHHHHHH.
I dare you.
Get Quiet today ~ and watch the healing begin.

MEET TONI, our guest blogger for today
Hello, on my blog and in my non-blog life I am known by Barefoot Baroness a nick name my maternal grandmother gave me because of my natural inclination to go bare foot at all times. Not unlike today. I was raised during the 50′s & 60′s which clearly set the tone for my entire life. Raising my two daughters with very much a back to nature sensibility. I am a woman of deep faith who also has two grandchildren.
Today you if you came calling you would find me listening to music and no doubt writing. something, whether it my move; or one of the 4 blogs I write and post for I am also a child advocate trained and sworn in 3 counties as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) working with children to protect only their interest. Along with my co-founder & administrator we manage about a blog for missing children called Bring Them Home, sending active alerts out throughout WordPress and farther via reblogging. We also try to post informative detailed information that typically explain ways to keep our children safe, Finally, I also create hand crafted greeting cards, collages, memory albums.
