Book Review of Wrecked, When a Broken World Slams Into Your Comfortable Life

Jeff Goins wrote Wrecked and reading it has messed me up. I hope he messes up your heart too.
I wasn’t always wrecked this way. I used to be so broken that I was like a cracked pot, leaking misery and despair over everyone around me.
My true healing came the moment I fully surrendered my life to Christ. Now that I have tasted true liberation, I am wrecked to help others find the same!

This book is powerfully and passionately written. The message is timely and full of hard but necessary truths. It is written for all who seek to be challenged to dig deeper and lead dramatically different lives.

I know Jeff and his heart for helping people and building relationships. He lives what he writes. Jeff mentors thousands of readers through his blog and his generosity is contagious. In the book he writes:
“…we are only able to help heal the brokenness around us when we are living whole lives ourselves.”
Jeff challenges the reader to live in community. He urges those on mission to not go at it alone and to be sure that you have something valuable to offer. A broken person cannot bring lasting hope to one who is suffering, unless they have walked through their healing.
Jeff believes strongly in the power of mentoring and being mentored. Although Jeff is younger than some of us, his wisdom and soul allow him to mentor folks of all ages.
“We need initiation—the older generation walking with the younger one, helping them learn where to walk and how.”
If you are not in a mentor relationship, I challenge you to find someone this week who you could help, or that you could learn from. There is not greater joy than walking alongside someone and guiding them toward greater transformation.

“We cannot be afraid of the cost, of getting stained with someone else’s filth. We cannot avoid the walls that divide us—the superficialities and prejudices that separate the “clean” from the “unclean.”
