DARING TO DREAM….AGAIN

Genesis Dream Board is the culmination of years of personal introspection work that my wife, Linda, and I undertook. Like millions of other families, we had set aside our own desires and focused on raising our children and over time forgot how to dream and allowed our lives to passively unfold through chance and circumstance. I was driven to provide for my family by focusing on my career in the wood products industry for 30 years. At the end I felt that I had little to show for all that time traded for income. We had created a good life, but it wasn’t a spectacular life.  And during all that time neither Linda nor I felt we had lived a dream life.

After leaving my career and beginning a new one helping others with personal development and growth, it became very apparent that, like me, the world was filled with people who had forgotten how to dream.  It seemed there were millions of people just existing and wishing for a more fulfilling life.  While helping others to envision and create the life they wanted, I experienced something quite remarkable.  Some how I had shifted from a person existing to one that reconnected to the desires of my heart, my dreams.  I began to examine my own dreams and possibility of where they would take me. Ways to make a difference in the world. Places I’d always wanted to travel. My vision of building a lifestyle filled with joy, happiness, liberty and contribution

One day, my wife had a party with several friends. Everyone brought magazines, papers and large poster boards. For hours they listened to music, cut out meaningful pictures, words and phrases and glued the elements to a poster board they called a “dream board”. Linda hung her dream board where she would see it very often if not daily. Over time we noticed that many of the goals and visions posted on the dream board had become reality…we had cruised through the Panama Canal; traveled to Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia; Santorini, Athens, Australia, Norway and so many other places.  Our family relationships with our daughter, grandchildren and son were happier and more meaningful.  Our own marriage had become more deeply connected than it had ever been.  This year, 2012, Linda and I are celebrating 44 years of marriage.  Our relationship has become spectacular, certainly one of our dreams.

One of the most powerful resources we all possess, is our imagination. In giving ourselves permission to imagine life’s possibilities, our dreams are revealed. And like Linda and I and so many of our users have discovered, anything you can dream and imagine you have the power to create.
