What makes you smile like nothing else can? (by Tammy Bolt Werthem)

What Makes you Smile Like Nothing Else Can?

I got this post idea from WordPress and would love some audience participation.  All you have to do is leave a comment here or on Facebook, depending on where you are reading the blog. Answer the question below:

What are three things that make you smile and why??

There are health benefits from smiling.  Some of these are:

Smiling changes our mood.

Smiling relieves stress.

Smiling lowers your blood pressure.

Smiling Releases Endorphins.

Smiling boosts your immune system.

From Mark Stibich, Ph.D., former About.com Guide

So, it is my opinion that you are pretty nuts if you refuse to smile. With these benefits and the social benefits, you are truly missing out, if you choose not to smile.

So, what makes me SMILE????

My kids.  When I see them playing well with others, I smile.  When I see them caring for another person and reaching out of themselves, I smile.  When I hear them say their prayers, I smile. When I see my son sing praises to God, I smile real big.  The first time he told me he loved me, I smiled and my heart melted.  As I watch them play and use their imagination, I smile.

My husband.  I smile when he walks in the room.  I smile when he serves our family and works hard to provide for us.  I smile when he suggest we go on a date, and that he has already arranged the babysitter.  When he leaves me love notes, I smile.  When he makes me pancakes, I smile and my belly is really happy.  When I think of how God has redeemed our lives and given us a life beyond our wildest dreams, I SMILE!

My friends.  I smile, knowing that I have a treasure trove of wealth, in my friends.  I smile when my friends make me laugh and play.  I smile knowing that we would do anything for one another.  When I make a new friend, I smile and thank God for the opportunity to grow.  When I think of all the old friends who have shaped me into the woman I am, I smile.  When I think of my sister, my life- long friend, I smile and thank God for knowing I would need a twin.

My dog.  Zena has this way of looking at me with her head tilted, that makes me smile.  When she greets me at the door with a kiss, I smile.  When I see her play with our kids, I smile and know that she would protect them from danger.  I smile when she chases squirrels. I smile and laugh when she does laps around the yard.  The way she unconditionally loves makes me smile.

  1. Like you ..the simple things in life make me smile…when I’m tired and my little girl comes in beside me in bed and we giggle and cuddle…When I hear my son playing guitar….When I’m out walking and I smell spring in the air..Great post Eliza Keating

  2. We had an amazingly fun weekend that make me smile thinking about the memories we made. Fun times at the Fall Festival at Church. Julia and I went on a 5 mile bike ride Friday. Watched Harry Potter 2 as a fam on Friday night. Saturday hung out at home then had Julia’s 10th birthday party at the bowling alley. Smiles were all abound dancing, bowling and eating with 19 kids. Seeing the awesome Karate kids cupcakes Carol Ann made for my sweet Julia. Going to the Haunted House with 7 kids ages 5-12. Watching them get scared to pieces then go in 4 more times to laugh and scream. Singing and dancing in the car with Aubrey, Brianna and Julissa. Kid’s church today playing a blow the balloons on each other side of the tape to win, boys against the girls. So FUN!! Then Sunday night singing and dancing at Karaoke Costume Coffee House thing. My face hurts from watching the whole Price family singing Family Force Five and Jay singing Sweet Caroline. Man that is some good stuff. Thanks for the reminder Tammy that smiles are contagious and bring joy to my soul. :-)

  3. I smile when im alone on my bike looking around and seeing God’s beauty everywhere. I smile when I do something clumsy or ditzy and cause someone to laugh. I smile when Oldies come on the radio and reminded me of being a child and having my dad drive me around till I fell asleep. I smile when my dog Daisy is begging for food and gets the sad puppy eyes. A smile goes a long way!

  5. I smile when I am able to lead worship and I hear the voices of Gods’ people come together as one. I smile when the rush of pure joy hits me as I hear the opening chords to any worship song.I smile when I look up at the stars and realize how big and glorious my God really is. I smile when I hold a baby close and realize I want this someday. I smile when the person I have feeling for says something that makes my day so much brighter. I smile when I am reading Gods’ word and something in it touches my brokenness and heals the pain that has been in my heart. Smiling is something I love doing and it makes my days so much better and brighter. God loves my smile and knows everything that brings it to my face.
